“PLC Programming with RSLogix 5000″ will get you up to speed – fast.

“PLC Programming with RSLogix 5000″ will:

• show you how to program a ControlLogix (1756) system or a CompactLogix (1769) system. These PLCs are the most common choices for controlling new installations

• teach you, step by step, how to make changes to the ladder logic online

• show you how to get a demo version of RSLogix

• save you a bunch of money (other PLC courses cost hundreds of dollars)

• save time (this ebook can be read and understood in a few evenings)

• show you how to be comfortable programming a PLC with RSLogix 5000

• teach you how Ladder Logic works in an Allen-Bradley programmable controller

• allow you to communicate intelligently with others regarding Allen-Bradley PLCs

We don’t just tell you what you need to do in RSLogix 5000 – we show you a picture.

This book has dozens of screen shots explaining how to:

– understand Allen-Bradley’s unique method of assigning addresses and tag names

– use the basic commands in the instruction set

– insert, edit and modify rungs

– connect to the PLC, download the program and modify the program online.

and much more.

This book contains 169 pages of text and screen shots to give you what you need to start programming in RSLogix 5000.

The Project

The best way to learn a new language or piece of software is by looking at a real world example.

“PLC Programming with RSLogix 5000″ uses a batching project to show you how to program. This is a functioning program – the real thing; not just a simulation.

There is a Project Scope included in the book. If you are a consultant or a programmer already, you are familiar with this type of document. It outlines in detail how the completed system must work. It would be your job to write the program and make sure that the system performs indicated in the project scope.

The book takes you through each step of writing the program to meet the specification. You will learn how to interpret words into ladder logic in RSLogix 5000. Here is a diagram and a brief description of the Project Scope that is used in the book.

Project Overview
Three ingredients (city water, ingredient QR and ingredient KM) are added in specified amounts by weight to the Mixing Tank. After all the ingredients have been added to the Mixing Tank, the mixture is blended by running the agitator for a given time. When the blending time is complete, the finished product is pumped to the Filling Lines for bottling and final packaging.Detailed Sequence of Operations
To begin a new batch, the operator will verify that the “SYSTEM READY” pilot light is on and that the Mixing Tank is ready to receive ingredients. The operator will then press the “START BATCH” pushbutton to begin the batching process. No further operator input is required. The “SYSTEM READY” pilot light will turn off.Automatic valve AV-CW will open. The “ADDING WATER” pilot light will illuminate. The state of AV-CW will be verified by limit switch LS-CW2. If LS-CW2 is not made within 2 seconds after the valve was told to open, a fault will be generated and the system will shut down. The pilot light “SYSTEM FAULT” PL2 will illuminate indicating that a fault has occurred.

“PLC Programming with RSLogix 5000″ shows the logical progression of the project from the start.

You learn how to:

– understand the Project Scope

– lay out the I/O

– select the right hardware

– configure the PLC and your personal computer

– program the logic to meet the specifications in the scope

– program fault detection

– go online to verify the operation of the program

– create the final documentation of the ladder logic

Actual screen shots are used from RSLogix 5000 to show you exactly how to use the software.

Excerpt – “PLC Programming with RSLogix 5000″Inserting a BranchWe need to “wire the contact” in parallel with the start button. We do this with a branch instruction. Drag the Branch tool button and place it on the marker between the System Enable bit and the Start Batch bit.

PLC-RSLogix-5000-insert-branch-1

Click on the blue section of the branch and drag it to the target to the right of the Start Batch PB1 instruction.

As you are dragging, it looks like this.

PLC-RSLogix-5000-insert-branch-2

Release the mouse button and the branch will appear around the Start Batch bit.

PLC-RSLogix-5000-insert-branch-3

Click and drag the XIC (eXamine If Closed) tool button from the User menu to the left side of the new branch.

We want this instruction to be tagged “SystemBatching”, just like the OTE in this rung.

There is a quick way to do that. Just click and drag the “SystemBatching” tag name from the OTE in this rung to the new instruction.

PLC-RSLogix-5000-insert-branch-4

This is called a latching rung. If the SystemEnable bit is on, the SystemBatching bit can be latched by momentarily pressing the Start Batch pushbutton. The SystemBatching bit will stay on and the rung will remain latched until the Stop Batch pushbutton is pressed or the SystemEnable bit goes off.

You will get 169 pages of text and images showing you how to program in “PLC Programming with RSLogix 5000″. The total package includes:
